Get ready to hang ten in Deep Ellum because Goodsurf, a thrilling new restaurant and bar, is making waves at the old Sandbar Cantina & Grill site. With its stationary wave generator provided by Citywave, Goodsurf is set to redefine dining and entertainment in the area. Whether you’re an experienced surfer or just curious, Goodsurf has something for everyone.
Urban Entertainment Concepts, led by Zach Shor and his business partners, will be owning and operating Goodsurf, their first restaurant venture. Although they may not be seasoned restaurateurs, their understanding of hospitality ensures a welcoming experience for all guests.
Deep Ellum was an obvious choice for Goodsurf’s location. Known as the creative and artistic soul of Dallas, this neighborhood perfectly aligns with the inclusive and countercultural spirit of surfing. Shor explains, “We think a lot of what Deep Ellum stands for aligns with not only what our company stands for but what the sport of surfing stands for.”
But Goodsurf isn’t just about surfing; there’s plenty to do for those who prefer to stay dry. Hang out on the covered patio, unwind in the beer garden with giant Jenga, relax on the pool deck, or enjoy the comfort of the air-conditioned indoor dining area. Goodsurf will also be preserving some of the sand volleyball courts, catering to sports enthusiasts.
Urban Entertainment Concepts has partnered with Ring On Hook to develop an enticing food and beverage menu. While specific dishes have yet to be finalized, expect Pan-American options with nods to surf destinations around the world. The cocktails will be creative, playful, and accessible, offering a unique twist without being over-the-top.
Coeval Studio, the architectural firm behind popular concepts like Smithy, Quarter Acre, and Harper’s, will bring their expertise to create a coastal-inspired design for Goodsurf. While some changes will be made to the old Sandbar, the space will prioritize natural light, open space, and social interaction, eschewing excessive TVs.
One of the highlights of Goodsurf is its partnership with Citywave, a surfing system that produces nonstop waves. Goodsurf, as the North American arm of Citywave, offers an exhilarating surfing experience for all ages. With a balance bar for support, even kids as young as 7 can catch a wave. Surfing sessions accommodate up to six people every 30 minutes, and reservations are available for individuals and groups. Goodsurf also plans to introduce a “dawn patrol” program for early morning surfers. The facility will provide convenient amenities like showers, changing rooms, and dryers for towels and bathing suits.
