Universal Kids Resort's New Gold Pass and the Frisco Calendar Behind It

October 8, 2026

On September 29, 2026, Universal Kids Resort added a third annual pass. The Gold Annual Pass costs $199.99 per person and comes with 12 months of admission, no passholder blockout dates and regular self-parking. The park on the Dallas North Tollway had been open just under three months by then. It welcomed its first guests on July 1. For a family that lives a short drive from the gate, the new tier makes an old question sharper. Which pass fits the way your family would actually visit?

Price alone won't settle it, because the three tiers are only $35 apart at each step. The calendar will. Universal has posted the dates each pass excludes and the dates the park closes for everyone. Those two lists show that Silver mostly works as a weekday pass and that Gold mostly buys Saturdays. They also show that all three passes lose the same stretch of winter.

Three Passes, Two Small Gaps

Here is how the tiers line up on Universal's current annual pass page.

Silver Silver with Parking Gold
Price per person $129.99 $164.99 $199.99
Passholder blockout dates Yes Yes None
Regular self-parking Not included Included Included
10% off food, beverage and merchandise No No Yes
10% off Friends & Family 1-Day and 2-Day tickets No No Yes
$20 off Premium Parking No No Yes
Hotel room upgrade, subject to availability No No Yes

Your 12 months begin the first time the pass is scanned at the park or used for parking, whichever happens first. A pass that isn't activated within 12 months of purchase expires. Universal also says it doesn't offer a Texas-resident discount on park tickets or hotel rooms. Living in Collin County doesn't get you a lower rate. What it gets you is easy repeat visits, which is exactly what an annual pass is priced around.

Parking is what gives the first $35 gap its value. When the park opened on July 1, NBC DFW reported regular parking at $20 per vehicle and premium parking at $30. Guests with an NTTA toll tag could pay at the on-site toll plaza. At that July rate, Silver with Parking covers its $35 premium over plain Silver by the second visit. Gold costs $70 more than plain Silver, which works out to three and a half visits of regular parking at the July rate. The included parking covers regular self-parking through Toll Plaza lanes 1 and 2 only. It doesn't cover hotel parking.

Parking also applies per car, while each pass covers one person. A family of four that splits the tiers can still drive in on one parking-inclusive pass. Universal's terms don't stop anyone from doing that. The parking benefit is tied to the passholder who presents it.

That leaves one real question at the top. Is the $35 step from Silver with Parking to Gold worth it? The answer is in the blockout list.

The Saturdays Silver Gives Away

Both Silver passes exclude the same dates. Starting this month, the posted list runs as follows.

  • October 2026: the 17th, 24th and 31st
  • December 2026: the 12th, 19th, 20th and 26th through 30th
  • March 2027: the 13th through 21st
  • May 2027: the 8th, 15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd and 29th through 31st
  • June 2027: the 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th
  • July 2027: the 2nd through 4th, 10th, 11th, 17th, 18th, 24th, 25th and 31st
  • August 2027: the 1st, 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd
  • September 2027: the 4th through 6th

The pattern shows up as soon as you check these dates against a calendar. All three October dates are Saturdays, which takes Silver holders out of the last three weekends before Halloween. December blocks Saturday the 12th and the full weekend of the 19th and 20th, then the whole run from the Saturday after Christmas through the following Wednesday. March 13 through 21 spans nine straight days, Saturday to Sunday, in the middle of spring break season.

Summer is where the difference gets big. From the second weekend of May 2027 through August 22, nearly every Saturday and Sunday is blocked for Silver, along with Memorial Day on Monday, May 31, and the Fourth of July stretch starting Friday, July 2. Apart from those two holiday weekdays, a family on Silver can visit on summer weekdays. A family that can only go on weekends would be mostly locked out from Memorial Day to the start of school.

That's what the $35 between Silver with Parking and Gold pays for. Gold has no passholder blockout dates. It also adds the in-park discounts in the table above, but the main thing you're buying is access to the weekends Silver skips. If your visits will mostly fall on summer weekday afternoons, Silver's calendar costs you very little. If they'll mostly fall on Saturday mornings, Silver's calendar takes away most of the year's busiest stretch.

WFAA's coverage of the launch gave a useful benchmark. A single ticket generally runs about $60 per person, and Silver generally runs about $130. Universal's ticket page lists one-day admission starting at $49.99 and two-day admission starting at $73.99, plus tax, and prices change by date. With either benchmark, even plain Silver pays for itself in admission within a few visits. You aren't really deciding whether a pass beats single tickets. You're deciding which days you need it to cover.

The Dates No Pass Covers

Blockout dates apply only to Silver. Closure dates apply to everyone, Gold included, because Universal runs the park seasonally. These are the posted closures:

  • November 2026: the 3rd and 4th, 10th and 11th, 17th and 18th, and the 26th
  • December 2026: the 25th
  • January 2027: the 6th through 8th, 11th through 14th, and 19th through 31st
  • February 2027: the 1st through 11th, 17th through 19th, and 22nd through 26th
  • March 2027: the 2nd and 3rd
  • April 2027: the 6th and 7th, 13th and 14th, and 20th and 21st
  • August 2027: the 17th and 18th, 24th and 25th, and 31st

November's closures land on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, plus Thanksgiving Day. The longest gap runs from January 19 through February 11, 2027, when the gates stay shut for 24 days in a row. Altogether, Universal lists 60 closure dates between November and the end of August. The park says these dates can change without notice and that it may add or remove dates.

This is where activation timing matters. Your 12 months start at the first scan, so the pass year includes whatever closures fall inside it. A pass first scanned in early October 2026 covers the full winter shutdown, every blocked Silver weekend in summer 2027, and an expiration in early October 2027. Universal's posted schedule only goes through August 2027 for closures and September 2027 for blockouts, so a pass activated later than this fall would run into dates that haven't been published yet.

The calendar is also less fixed than a printed list makes it look. Universal's vacation package page announced that the park would close Thursday, October 1, 2026, because of severe weather in the Frisco area, while the hotel stayed open. WFAA's forecast described the threat as repeated heavy rain, with 1 to 4 inches widespread, localized totals possibly higher, and a Flood Watch in effect. It rated the risk of severe storms themselves as low. Universal's online calendar says it posts schedule changes there, so check it before you leave home.

What a Repeat Visit Looks Like

For a family heading toward 10 or 15 visits, what's inside matters more than the price per day. The park has seven lands: Shrek's Swamp, SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom, Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club, Jurassic World Adventure Camp, TrollsFest, Puss in Boots Del Mar and Isle of Curiosity. Named rides include Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster, Mr. DNA's Double Helix Spin, Shrek & Fiona's Happily Ogre After, Hair in the Clouds, Swings Over Del Mar and Jellyfish Fields Jamboree.

Gold's 10% food discount pays off when a family keeps returning to the same counters. Community Impact's opening-day dining coverage noted that each land has its own food. Examples include Cakey's Cupcakes, Trolls Eatz! and the Snack Bar in Bikini Bottom. Gold's 10% off Friends & Family 1-Day and 2-Day tickets is limited to six tickets per visit date and must be bought at Guest Services. That perk is aimed at Frisco households with visiting grandparents or cousins in town.

At opening, NBC DFW reported typical hours of 10 a.m. to 7 or 8 p.m., depending on the day. Guests staying at the 300-room Universal Kids Resort Hotel, which has its own park entrance, get Early Park Admission with their separate park ticket. Children under 2 get in free, and everyone 2 and older needs admission. A Gold pass bought for a toddler's second birthday would cover the year when that child's ride options grow fastest.

The area right around the park is still being built out. Fields West, a separate part of the larger Fields development, had 44 signed leases as of an August 29 update, including Flower Child and SusieCakes. Phased openings are planned from late 2027 into 2028. Community Impact has also reported that Mastro's Steakhouse is planned there. On that schedule, a pass bought this fall would run out before most of Fields West opens. For now, the dining near the park is mostly the food inside it.

If you're working out how Universal Kids Resort, Fields West and the next few years of growth in north Frisco fit together for your household, Modern Living Group is glad to talk it through, whether that means which Saturdays you'll want next summer or how the new development around the Tollway will change daily life nearby.
